The Algarve has become Europe’s premier destination for golfers around the world. The beautiful blend of the Atlantic waters, the lush coastal landscape, and the picturesque fisherman villages of the Algarve offer a unique golf setting. Golf was essentially nonexistent in the Algarve until 1966, when the three-time British Open champion, Sir Henry Cotton, decided to open the first course in Penina. Now a days, the Algarve has thirty-five golf clubs making a total of forty-two 9-hole and 18-hole layouts.
Golf can be practiced in the Algarve all year round, thanks to its mild climate that ensures the health of the lawn in all seasons. Above all many reasons to choose Algarve as your next golf destination, there is the extraordinary density of golf courses in the region. It allows visitors to play golf in a different location every day within a short driving distance.
Be Live Palmeiras Village, is located at a strategic point surrounded by six of the best Algarve golf courses, including Oceanico Faldo and Oceanico O’Connor resorts. Both clubs are located only 20-minutes driving from our hotel. Oceanico O’Connor is lined within the Orange groves that run through a valley full of streams and water hazards creating an easy walk and an interesting challenge for high handicappers. Meanwhile, Oceanico Faldo is aimed to players able to create and strategy evading the big bunkers in this course inspired in the Arizona Dessert and designed by Nick Faldo.
In the opposite direction, only 6.8 miles northwest from Be Live Palmeiras Villages, is Pestana Silves Golf, also known as Vale de Pinta. Designed by the American architect Ronald Fream in 1992, this golf course is considered among the hundred best in Europe. Just beyond, 19 miles west of our facilities are Gramacho Pestana Golf Resort and Palmares Golf & Beach.
Gramacho originally a nine-hole layout was doubled in size in the past decade to become a full 18-hole under the supervision of Ron Fream. Meanwhile, Palmares Golf & Beach, designed by Frank Pennink, is among the top five golf courses in the Algarve. The orography of the land in Palmares Golf & Beach allows golfers to enjoy mountain and ocean views in a unique golf experience.
The best golf courses in Europe, in addition to Algarve’s magnificent beaches, reasonably priced restaurants, stunning sceneries and the friendly people have contributed to the consolidation of this Portuguese region as one of the best golf destinations in the world.
