“Yank Tank” is the English slang term referring to American classic cars driven in Cuba. This classic models were produced in the 50s and 60s before United States embargo against Cuba was introduced in 1962, and a national law forbidden the car’s imports was approved by Castro’s government two year before the embargo. Yank Tanks, Almendrones or Máquina, however you want to call them, are a touristic attraction in Havana. Tourists rent them to go around the city or by the coast. In 2014, the Cuban government eliminate existing mechanisms of approval for the purchase of motor vehicles from the state, allowing individuals to import and buy cars. Now a days, Yank Tank are an endangered kind.
