Founded in 2004, Es Baluard is a museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Its collection and its temporary exhibit are consider one of the best on its area in Spain. The collection groups pieces of the most important movements and artists that have converged on the Balearic Islands, since the beginning of the 20th century.
Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation in Mallorca
Considered one of the most remarkable surrealist Catalan artists, Joan Miró has a meaningful relationship with the island of Mallorca. He inherited the manor that belonged to his ancestors in the island and used it frequently as a summer house. Since the house was very old, the painter asked Jose María Sert to build a working space next to it. Before his death the painter decided to leave the property and a big collection to the people of Mallorca, creating the Pilar i Joan Miró Foundation. This museum and a research institution has become one of the most interesting places to visit in Palma de Mallorca.
Juan March Foundation
This private museum is located in a XVII century manor in the heart of Palma de Mallorca. Its collection brings together the work of XX century Spanish avant-garde artists, like Picasso, Miró, Gris and Dalí. It also has a much extended collection on Spanish abstract and contemporary art.
Museo de Mallorca is the only public museum in the island. Its collections brings together objects and pieces from different knowledge areas archeology, ethnology, paleontology, fine arts and decorative arts. The museum is share out in three different building located in three different cities in the island -Palma, Alcudia and Muro.
Caixa Forum Palma
Caixa Forum is the name of a franchise art institution sponsored by Caixa Banc Foundation –an important local bank- with venues across the country. They show very interesting temporary exhibits regarding art and culture areas. Besides the exhibits, Caixa Forum Palma has a collection Hermen Anglada Camarasa paintings.
