• Carthaginians and Romans, fun celebration

The city of Cartagena, Region of Murcia, is in itself an authentic treatise on history and on the stones of an ancient Iberian and Tartessian community, Hasdrubal dared to lay the foundation of the city around the year 227 b.C.

If Carthaginian culture served to establish the roots of Cartagena, the strength of the Roman Empire let the town of Murcia become one of the most beautiful cities of the Mediterranean.

This struggle between the desire for extension of primal Qart Hadasht, son in law of Hamilcar Barca and Carthago Nova of Emperor Diocletian has transcended in time and today continues present in the city even through their festivities.

In fact, Carthaginians and Romans is one of the most fun celebrations of Cartagena that every year, and before the summer comes to an end, stage pre- Byzantine struggles of their ancestors.

It’s time to go back to the Second Punic Wars and recreate the historical events that occurred in that ancient city. The images we can observe are quite spectacular.

Cartagena’s streets are taken by the Legions of Rome and Carthago Troops. Travelers will not stop taking pictures of Amazons, legionaries, gods, tribunes, mercenaries, hordes…

The Carthaginians and Romans celebrations are declared of National Tourist Interest and are attended by thousands of tourists every year that combine this way a break from sun and beach, with one of the most unique activities of the Spanish geography.
