The house of José Saramago in Lanzarote

This post is also available in: Spanish

The love professed by José Saramago towards Lanzarote ‘badcountry’, was reflected in the relationship that the Portuguese Nobel Prize had with Lanzarote for the last 18 years of his life.

There he lived with his wife and personal assistant Pilar del Rio, in a house made of books, as the genius of the letters liked to say, which was always open. Today, almost three years after the famous writer left us; ‘A Casa’ (his house)  is a lively cultural space.

To visit the House of José Saramago in Lanzarote we must go to the south of the island, to the town of Tías. There we can take a tour that will give us all the details of the daily life of a good man and a unique genius.

During the visit, the traveler can carry out its own approach to the world that surrounded the writer, his passions, friends, myths … César Manrique, Pessoa, the drawing of Alberti or ‘Beato de Liébana’ facsimile… and the sea, this spectacular Lanzarote Sea that dazzled so much the Nobel Prize winner.
